FHPS Annual Spring Fling and Silent Auction
Each Year FHPS holds a Spring Fling and Silent Auction event where we invite the local community to come to our school for a fun day of games, learning and an auction with donations from all of our local merchants. Its a great opportunity for the community to see our great school.
Waste Neutral collects our cafeteria food waste
We have been working with Waste Neutral since 2012. In an effort to live more sustainably, students have been diverting their lunch food scraps from trash cans. Our collected food scraps are picked up by waste neutral. We are given a point for every pound they pick up. In April we cash in our points for compost soil to use in our garden. The community also brings their compost to the school.

3.2 Systemic Partnership
Systemic Partnership between Federal Hill Preparatory and Baltimore City Public Schools
Federal Hill Preparatory school has successfully obtained funding from the Baltimore Office of Sustainability for the past 6 years. The Baltimore Office of Sustainability is a key partner of Baltimore City Schools. The grant monies were used for various projects to help Federal Hill Preparatory School further our greening efforts. FHPS's green coordinator represented FHP as part of the K12 Food Waste Working Group, a partnership between City Schools, the City’s Office of Sustainability, the Institute for Local Self Reliance, and multiple local partners. The Working Group is exploring ways to reduce food waste through right-sizing the amount of food ordered, giving uneaten food to individuals and organizations who can use it, and composting food waste. Ms. Thomas provided detailed information for a case study of FHP and its cafeteria composting program. The Working Group met on the following dates: Sept 7, 2016; Dec 15, 2016, and Feb 24, 2017.
