FSNE Nutrition Educators Lauren Williams and Amy Wolpert introduced the FHPS staff to the FSNE program, as well as the curricula FSNE offers to elementary school communities. Each grade was provided with materials and training on the curriculum being implemented in their classrooms:
- Pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade staff received a training for Read For Health, a language arts based nutrition and physical activity education curriculum for pre-kindergarten and elementary school students. Through the Read For Health curriculum, health messages are conveyed through selected books and are reinforced with activities and food tastings.
- 4th and 5th grade staff received a training for ReFresh, a curriculum specifically created for 4th and 5th graders which focuses on increasing student exposure to fruits, vegetables and whole grains through fun and engaging hands-on activities, food demonstrations and tastings. Rather than presenting nutrition as a stand-alone topic, ReFresh lessons relate to topic areas within math, language arts, social studies, art, and science, technology, engineering and math curriculum.

Green Team Meetings- Consist of our teachers who have a desire to work on environmental topics with the students at the school. It is a planning meeting of how we will accomplish our goals.
9-15-15 We like to meet at the beginning of the school year to get a set plan of where we are and what we would like to accomplish. We discussed plans for green club and made a list of grants available. We need to discuss with green club students what projects they would like to work on.
3/29/16 We met again after talking with students at several of the green clubs about our up coming bird sanctuary process and came up with a plan of how to best execute this.
8/30/16 First meeting of the new year. We wanted to meet early so things to get to hectic with other school activities. We discussed where each of us could handle working on our next big project with students.
12/6/16 Another planning meeting for how we will acquire supplies and sort through student ideas for projects they want to complete.
